SYDNEY THEATRE

An amazing architectural feast that blends modernism with traditional elements. Another great aspect, besides the plays, is a stunning red glass screen that divides the theatre from the restaurant next door.

MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

Circular Quay West,
T 9245 2400
www.mca.com.au
You’ll find cutting-edge contemporary art here, mostly from Australia. The best and most popular exhibition of the year is “Primavera,” which showcases young artists. If you are more into architecture than art, then you’ll love the building itself, originally the Maritime Services Board.

ROSE SEIDLER HOUSE

71 Clissold Road,
Wahroonga,
T 9989 8020
www.hht.net.au/museums
Harry Seidler, one of Australia’s most famous architects, built a house for his mother in 1950. Much like Frank Lloyd Wright, Seidler wanted to explore the relationship between outdoor and indoor space. Open on Sundays between 10am and 5pm, the house also holds some fantastic furniture pieces by Eames.

OBJECT

415 Bourke Street,

Once a hospital chapel, now it houses the once homeless Object gallery. Some of the chapel features remain, but architect Sam Marshall refurbished the building, adding a mezzanine gallery space. The best part about the gallery is the staggered circular shape of the building that allows light to pour in.
