Jodhpur is known as the Blue city because of its indigo colored houses. It’s in West Rajasthan, defined by the amazing Meherangarh Fort, which towers over the Thar desert. Jodhpur epitomizes all the Romance and Feudal splendor of Rajasthan.
HISTORY
Jodhpur was founded in late 15th century by the Rajput clan known as the Rathores. Strategically located on the overland route, the city grew out of the profits of opium, sandalwood, dates and copper. Its merchant class, known as the Merwaris, flourished under the Raj and maintained its entrepreneurial skills, continuing to run many of India’s biggest corporations today.
